Intro

Nearly a decade into my journey as a self-employed accountant, I thought I had mastered the art of financial management.
Yet every week, I found myself drowning in the same repetitive cycle, spending around 20% of my workweek buried in receipts, invoices, and reconciliations.

The irony wasn’t lost on me. I was helping others grow their businesses while losing precious hours in mine.

The Broken System

Across the UK, millions of freelancers and small business owners were trapped in the same problem.
Their choice? Either lose hours every week doing admin or pay accountants £200–£400 a day for tasks that could and should be automated.

Meanwhile, talented accountants up North were struggling to find clients, while businesses in London paid premium rates simply due to geography.
The system was broken, expensive, outdated, and fundamentally unfair.

The Turning Point

It became obvious:
If I was losing entire afternoons to manual admin, what was this costing the millions of people without my background?

The solution was clear, automate the routine, elevate the strategic.
AI could take care of the repetitive work like categorising transactions, creating invoices, and handling tax submissions.
Human accountants could then focus on strategy, optimisation, and growth.

That’s when I met Paul Tiley on LinkedIn in 2024. We shared the same vision to break down both the technological and geographical barriers holding small businesses back.
Together, we began shaping what would become Nebula Finance.

Building a Mission-Driven Team

Soon after, Claire Huddleston-Stevens and Michael Walker joined our journey.
Claire, with her background in Fintech and Payments, immediately understood how artificial intelligence could redefine financial management.
Michael, with his CFO experience, helped us see that our mission wasn’t just to simplify accounting, it was to democratise financial management entirely.

And then came something extraordinary, we attracted engineers and NEDs from Monzo Bank.
These were people who had helped redefine digital banking in the UK.
Their decision to join us validated what we already knew: Nebula wasn’t just an accounting tool. It was a financial revolution in the making.
